The Digital Citizenship and Online Safety Program
About the Project
The Digital Citizenship and Online Safety Program was created to equip young people, parents, and educators with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world responsibly and safely. The program promotes responsible online behavior, awareness of digital rights, and protection from risks such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and privacy violations.
Through the Digital Citizenship and Online Safety Fellowship, 25 educators, youth advocates, and community leaders were trained to become champions of digital responsibility. They gained practical knowledge on online safety, data privacy, and digital literacy, which they later cascaded to schools and communities through workshops and advocacy sessions.
The program also featured a Safer Internet Day Summit that brought together over 100 stakeholders including parents, teachers, policymakers, and youth for dialogue and collaboration on protecting children and youth online. Additionally, the Digital Citizenship Rural Advocacy component extended outreach to underserved communities, ensuring that people in remote areas also benefit from online safety education and access to digital literacy resources.

Why It Matters
As the internet becomes increasingly central to education, communication, and daily life, children and young people face growing exposure to online risks. Many parents and educators lack the tools to guide them safely through the digital space. The Digital Citizenship and Online Safety Program addresses this gap by building awareness, strengthening digital responsibility, and promoting safe online practices. By empowering students, teachers, and families with knowledge, the program fosters a culture of respect, security, and ethical engagement in the digital world—creating safer online environments for everyone.
