The Code Club Program

About the Project

The Code Club Program empowers children and young people aged 8 to 18 with foundational coding, robotics, and digital literacy skills through hands-on, creative, and inclusive learning experiences. The program bridges the gap between traditional education and practical digital skills by setting up clubs in schools and communities where learners explore computer science concepts through projects that encourage problem solving and innovation.

Each Code Club provides a supportive environment for young learners to create, collaborate, and experiment with open-source technology, developing prototypes and digital solutions to challenges in their everyday lives. Teachers and mentors receive intensive training in coding, robotics, online safety, and club management, ensuring that learning is engaging, sustainable, and inclusive for all students.

The program is implemented in partnership with educational authorities and community stakeholders to reach both urban and rural schools. Through strategic collaboration, Code Club promotes early exposure to STEM education, cultivates digital creativity, and prepares students for future careers in technology.

Our Impact

  • Establishing 60 Code Clubs across public and private schools, with 60% located in rural and underserved communities.
  • Training 80 club leaders and mentors through intensive “Train the Trainers” workshops focused on coding, robotics, and online safety.
  • Empowering 3,000 students annually with coding and digital literacy skills using practical, project-based learning methods..
  • Integrating Code Clubs into the annual STEM Funfest, providing a platform for students to showcase innovations and engage with industry experts.
  • Promoting inclusivity by ensuring access to coding resources and mentorship for learners from disadvantaged and rural backgrounds.
  • Developing localized educational resources including translated coding materials and child-friendly safeguarding guides.
  • Building partnerships with ministries, schools, and technology organizations to ensure program sustainability and scalability.
  • Encouraging gender inclusion by creating safe and supportive spaces for girls to participate equally in technology learning.

Why It Matters

Digital literacy and coding are essential skills for the future, yet many children in Nigeria still lack access to quality computer science education. The Code Club Program addresses this gap by democratizing access to technology learning, especially for those in underserved communities. It inspires creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while nurturing the next generation of innovators, coders, and digital leaders. By connecting learning with real-world impact, the program ensures that every child, regardless of background or gender, has the opportunity to build the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing digital world.
